He was not new to this domain of Algorithmic trading but was unaware of the scope and exposure a powerful tool like Machine Learning can give him for trading. This led him to a search for free resources available to learn about Machine Learning and its strategies, and Backtesting.

Hello! My name is Juan Marquez, and I am from California, United States. I am an Aerospace Engineer by qualification but have worked as a freelance developer of trading strategies for the last five years.
Before Quantra, I worked in RUST and made algorithmic trading strategies that did not use Machine Learning (ML). I came to Quantra because I wanted to move my trading work and analysis to Python and incorporate Machine Learning. Quantra had what I needed, which was ML and Trading together.
I precisely wanted to tie together ML model validation results and strategy backtesting. My experience of learning Machine Learning with Python on Quantra was outstanding. My main objective was to translate ML models into trading systems, and we did exactly that. I can take the knowledge and build upon it.
Before doing the paid courses, I did the free “Introduction to Machine Learning for Trading” course and was happy with the material. The free course proved to me that there was a lot of good material coming from Quantra.
Before Quantra, I tested many regressors, scalers, and dimensionality reducers for trading. I evaluated performance based on ML metrics like MSE and MAE, which do not necessarily translate to successful trading systems.
After the first Quantra course I completed, I was able to update my code and implement an out-of-sample backtest, which now feels more like a trading system than a machine learning model.
