From being a Manual trader, Yoginder entered a new and advanced model of trading i.e. Automated Trading. But he wanted to get his basics cleared. Coming from a non-technical background his search led to pursuing Python for Trading.
Here is Yoginder, sharing his journey.
Hi! I am Yoginder Singh, from India. I am a Chartered Accountant by profession and currently doing my own practice.
I have been trading actively since 2018 in the derivatives asset class. I apply a lot of option strategies that are based on the volatility index of India.
During my trading journey, I got to know that a lot of the work can be automated through python and seeing the potential in it, I decided to take up some courses and learn more about python and Algorithmic trading as a whole.
While I was looking for online learning resources for the same, I came across Quantra. Since I don't have past experience in programming, I enrolled in the ‘Python for Trading: Basic’ course. I had a very good experience learning from this course. I learned about importing the data, plotting graphs etc. but at the same time, realized that the learning journey is long and needs a lot of practice.
The course had many practice exercises, which helped me get better at python. I was able to do most of these exercises by myself. The Jupyter notebooks were the most useful tool, in the course. The notebooks contain pre-written codes along with explanations, where one can change the parameters and results on the go. This is a unique point about Quantra.
All in all, I look forward to doing more courses in the future, while simultaneously learning and practicing python.
